Nue Studio Miami Presents Alexander Gassel

Nue Studio Miami Presents Alexander Gassel

Nue Studio wants to cordially invite you to its monthly Gallery Walk this Saturday, November,8  from 7 pm until 11 pm.

We are very excited to welcome and introduce Alexander Gassel, whose work you might have seen before if you happened to visit Vatican, but if you have not, you shouldn’t miss his solo exhibit which will be running until December, 7 2008.

Alexander or Sasha, as everyone calls him, was born in Moscow. He studied, worked and lived under the Soviet oppression. The government would not accept or recognize him as an artist as he chose  the “wrong” art to create - contemporary religious paintings were strictly forbidden in Russia then. It made him leave the country in 1980 to start a new life in America.

Alexander Gassel makes icons. He uses an ancient technique: egg yolk tempera. He makes his own color pigments by grinding natural stones and minerals into powder, which he then mixes with egg yolk.

By restoring and copying medieval tempera paintings, the artist mastered traditional methods of icon painting as well as developed his own unique style. Based on traditional Russian artistic values, his new artwork is a surrealistic combination of details from different civilizations. Old symbols are joined with contemporary subjects.

It is hard to say if he is contemporary or traditional. He is both, he is neither. He is unique!

See you this Saturday at Nue Studio which is located at 2 Midtown directly East of Target.

3470 East Coast Avenue, Suite 113

You can always call 305.409.0996 or 786.314.7453 if lost or confused.

Natasha & Todd.

Romon Kimin Yang aka Rostarr, was born in South Korea but has lived in NY since 1989. He has been a key figure in the city’s underground art scene and has exhibited extensively throughout the United States, Asia and Europe.

His free-formed work comes across as a universe of abstract and geometrical shapes from which symbolic and iconographic elements emerge in elegant and incisive gestural strokes. His work is defined by an expression he calls ‘Graphysics’, meaning the fusion of graphic art and design and the physical laws governing the movement of energy. His work extends into the mediums of painting, digital media, sculpture, textile and public art projects with the Barnstormers collective.

Yang graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York City in 1993. In 2000, he was featured as one of I.D. magazine’s “I.D. 40 under 30″. In 2004, he was recognized as an honoree at the A.I.C.P. show held yearly at the New York Museum of Modern Art and his work has been reviewed by Art Forum, Modern Painters, The New York Times and Artnet.com among other prominent publications.

A dozen new young board members - ranging from  graphic designers to copywriters to PR executives - chosen this year will spearhead a range of activities across the design spectrum. As always, AIGA Miami promises a season of top-level programming such as live lectures from design stars, major exhibitions of local talent and cutting-edge publications.

FIND IT. DRAW IT. MAKE IT. PAINT IT.

1. Find a your-head-sized box

3. Create your own with robotic found objects (buttons, wires, switches and bleepers)

4. Pop eye-holes for visibility

5. Paint it or spray paint it (we recommend at least 5 days ahead)

6. WEAR IT!
